John F. Maher, Jr., 63, passed away peacefully in his daughter Michelle's home, held by and surrounded by his loving family.

He was a loving "Dad" to 7 children; Mary, Chip, Michelle, Megan, John, Joseph, and Dena. Father in law to John, James, Tina, Alyssa, George, and Shawn all of FL.
An adored "Pop" to 16 grandchildren; Amanda, Alicia, Patrick, Kory, Vanessa, Vincent, Kristin, Sarah, Steven, Justin, Jacob, Skyler, Samantha. Also, Brandon, Cody, and Aaliyah.
His grandson Skyler, who was more like a son, held the tenderest piece of his heart.
He is predeceased by; his mother Catherine and father John and former wife Esther. He is survived by; companion Geraldine of FL.; Brother Brian, sister in law Mel and nieces; Jennifer, Jessica, and nephew Brian Jr., all of CT.

He was born and raised in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. He attended St. Bartholomew Catholic school. He served in the United States Marine Corp. 1969-1970. He held management positions with General Motors and Twin County Grocers in addition to being an entrepreneur and independent business owner. He moved to Florida in 1999 from Jackson, New Jersey, to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Prior to retirement he worked for Condor Pool Spa & Billiards in Brooksville, FL. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Brooksville.

He demonstrated Christianity by possessing a deep level of empathy and compassion towards others, especially children. Even though he was a man of modest means, he was giving. He was an unassuming sponsoring member of various local and global charities for children including the following: Toys for Tots, Christian Appalachian Project, Special Olympics, Smile Train, St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, and Shriners Children's hospital in addition to the Wounded Warrior Project and the USO.

He was a man of humility, dignity, and insight. Of his terminal diagnosis, He stated "This was a gift; I was given a gift; a gift of time; time to prepare and say my goodbyes".

A Gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, April 3rd from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Brewer Funeral Home on 1190 South Broad Street in Brooksville.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00pm in the Brewer Chapel. Light refreshments will be served. Inurnment will be held at Florida National Cemetery at 2:30pm. Please notify the staff upon arrival if you plan on joining the 30 minute escorted procession from Brewer to the Cemetery.
